Frank Stella (1936 - ) was born in Malden, Massachusetts. He attended Princeton University before moving to New York City in the late 1950s. He was first recognized in art circles in the early 1960s for his impersonal paintings that were composed of straight, parallel, monochrome stripes. Since 1974, he has focused on brightly-colored metal constructions. The only mural he designed, "Dusk," was painted on the south side of the Pacific Bell microwave station on Grand Avenue.
