Carolyn Franklin was active in the Faculty Wives Club and Town and Gown. Together with her husband, Carl M. Franklin, who was a law professor, chie financial officer and general counsel at USC, Mrs. Franklin raised more than $100 million for chairs, professorships, scholarships, buildings, and equipment at the University. Mrs. Franklin died in 1993. The fountain and the landscaping were made possible by a gift from the Morris Smith Foundation.
